It was cool to see KFAN also finally recognize this... PA & Charch had a one-hour PST "Pregame Progrum", and interviewed a bunch of bubble statement holders before the bracket of 68 was revealed. They also had a bracketologist, Jim "Boom" Ross, who sounded like he actually cared. Pretty good stuff.
Before the brackets were revealed, a yeah-baby named Lil' B (an intern?) sang the national anthem; it was very emotional. She did a phenomenal job, quite frankly.
You might as well bookmark Common's page where voting will take place over the next month: http://www.kfan.com/pages/psn_dancole.html The 2-hour live broadcast of the selection show is available there, the full bracket with statements, and a printable bracket.
As I looked over this year's 68 statements, I started to realize some of my own submissions made the Big Dance:
#11 seed, SID HARTMAN REGION
> Sid Hartman: "I doubt that the Yankees or Red Sox would have matched the contract the Twins gave Mauer."
#12 seed, TED REGION
> Ron Gardenhire, on Twins' postseason losing streak to the Yankees: "Yes, they've won nine in a row. That's not dominating us, other than wins and losses."
#13 seed, BREWSTER REGION
> Dick Bremer: "This would be the biggest hit of Butera's career." (He had one career hit coming into the at-bat)
#17 seed (say-in game), TED REGION
> Sid Hartman: "If Royce White and Trevor Mbakwe weren't sidelined by legal problems and Al Nolen weren't academically ineligible, the Gophers would have won the Big Ten."
I thought a few others might've been my submissions as well, but I couldn't remember for sure. I looked through my Sent folder in Yahoo, but also realized most were probably sent from my work email up until mid-June. However, I did find these submissions that didn't make the cut:
> Bud Selig (from Jim Caple column): "Never -- and I can say this unequivocally -- did the Pohlad family ever waver about wanting to keep the Twins here."
> Tim Brewster (from Shooter column): "Our fans are starving for a true winner at Minnesota. We're going to get that done."
> Shooter: "The Twins' financial model is the same as it was under Pohlad's late father, Carl."
> Seth Stohs, on his podcast, on the latest Sports Illustrated cover, featuring Jim Thome and Target Field:
"Obviously Sports Illustrated does a nice job of photography, but I think that cover is one of the nicest, and definitely shows off Target Field nationally and internationally... so I'm thinking that kind of thing can help even with free agents in the future."
I ALWAYS...
Finally, when I listened to yesterday's Progrum, they played the "One Preposterous Statement" song - to the tune of "One Shining Moment" - that I wrote last year and sent in, then some other rube sang and recorded, before submitting back to Common. I was pretty happy to hear it, as KFAN has a knack for losing a lot of stuff.
As the voting officially gets underway today, once again here are the song lyrics:
“One Preposterous Statement” © 2010
The statement is uttered
and there you are
you're shooting from the hip
you're a Super-Star
And all the years
no-one knows
just how dumb you spoke
but now it shows...
(that) ONE PREPOSTEROUS STATEMENT, YOU REACHED DEEP INSIDE
ONE PREPOSTEROUS STATEMENT, YOU KNEW YOU WERE ALIVE
Feel the beat of Shooter’s heart
feel the wind in Sid’s face
it's more than a contest
it's more than a race...
And when it's done
win or lose
you always spoke absurd
cuz inside you knew...
(that) ONE PREPOSTEROUS STATEMENT, YOU REACHED FOR THE SKY
ONE PREPOSTEROUS STATEMENT, YOU KNEW
ONE PREPOSTEROUS STATEMENT, YOU WERE WILLING TO TRY
ONE PREPOSTEROUS STATEMENT….
________________________________
The second verse I initially included didn't make the cut, so here that is as well:
But your quip is short
and The Progrum’s long
in the flapping of your lips
ah that statement lives on
And when it's done
win or lose
you always blurted out
cuz inside you knew...
(that) ONE PREPOSTEROUS STATEMENT, YOU REACHED DEEP INSIDE
ONE PREPOSTEROUS STATEMENT, YOU KNEW YOU WERE ALIVE
